2-day course for adults to explore and develop a wide variety of approaches to drawing with Bath-based artist and lecturer Fhiona Mckie. Experienced or beginner participants alike, this is a chance to (re-) connect with creative practice, build confidence and learn new skills.

This drawing weekend will provide a range of activities from sensory, experimental and playful approaches to drawing to more objective observations of nature and our surroundings on the Dartington Hall estate. Using a range of wet and dry materials, you will be encouraged to push the boundaries of your own practice and develop your own unique line and mark making ability. Encouraging spontaneity and unexpected outcomes, the aim for the end of the course is that you will have expanded your visual language understanding and fluency.

About the tutor

Fhiona Mckie’s own practice encompasses drawing, painting and print. She is passionate about drawing in its broadest sense as a way of exploring ideas and process that go beyond observation. For her, it is a means to work in a contemporary creative context, sharing her practice in ways that connect others with creativity.

Fhiona trained at Exeter College of Art, Dartington and Norwich School of Art & Design. For the last 20 years she has been a full time lecturer, working at Bath Spa University, Bath College and Norwich School of Art and Design. She has also delivered a number of workshops in museums and galleries in the Bath and Bristol area, including The Holbourne Museum, Hot Bath Gallery, Bath Fashion Museum and The American Museum. Fhiona has worked with art and design foundation students, undergraduates and professionals – teachers, art therapists, architects, artists, designers, and craft practitioners .

She is a trustee of the GANE Trust in Bristol which aims to support and help finance  through grants people involved with the arts, crafts and design and those engaged in welfare and social care.
